School of Nursing
California Baptist University is one of the few religious affiliated colleges in the state that offers a nursing degree. Founded in 1950, it was the brainchild of the California Baptist Convention. Though the CBC still retains ownership of the school, it now offers a number of features that you might not find on other religious campuses. Nearly 8,000 students attend this campus, which sprawls across more than 150 acres of lush grounds and rolling hills.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Like many colleges, CBU has a pre-nursing program that ensures students understand the topics and skills that they’ll address and need when they attend the nursing program. Students must take 10 courses on biology, human development, statistics and mathematics before enrolling in the nursing school. To earn a nursing degree from this university, you must complete 124 units of courses at the upper and more advanced level. The university also gives you the option of taking an examination review course during your last semester. This course goes over some of the questions and topics found on the California State Board of Nursing Professional examination. All students will also complete several clinical rotations, and students must also take two classes that address religious topics found in the nursing profession.

California State University, Bakersfield
School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering
California State University, Bakersfield is one of the most beautiful campuses in the CSU school system. Established in 1965, it is home to more than 8,000 students. It now offers more than 90 degrees at the bachelor’s level and approximately 30 different advanced degrees. Looking at a way to earn your BSN or another type of nursing degree? CSU Bakersfield offers a traditional RN to BSN program that makes it easy for students with an RN degree to transition to the more advanced degree. The campus also offers a pre-nursing program that lets you gain the general course credits and basic introductory courses that you need before entering the full program. The traditional BSN program requires four years of study. You’ll spend the first year taking general education courses and your remaining three years working on your nursing degree. California State University, Channel Islands
Nursing Program
When you visit the California State University, Channel Islands campus, you might recognize it from its appearances in television shows and films. Dozens of productions filmed there over the years to take advantage of its great look and the historic buildings on campus. Though the history of the school only dates back to the early 2000s, it established itself as one of the area’s top choices for nursing students and students interested in studying engineering, history and other topics.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The CSU Channel Islands campus is one of the only campuses in the state that offers a simulation lab for nursing students. This gives you the chance to practice your skills and gain some more confidence before you work with actual patients. The simulations that you go over let you see how you would do around problem patients and with patients who have serious medical conditions. Students enrolled in the nursing program can finish their degrees in three years. The program requires that students take a full course load during the fall and spring semester and a full course load in the summer. You’ll also need to take eight prerequisite courses before you can enter the nursing program as a full time student.

College of Natural Sciences
Located just an hour and a half away from Sacramento, California State University, Chico offers an alternative for students who want to live away from home. Founded in 1887, it served as a normal school before adding new and more diverse programs. The university admits somewhere between 65 and 75 percent of those who apply, but it still maintains a strong reputation due to its high graduation and placement rates and its strong faculty members.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
California State University, Chico, sometimes called Chico State, prides itself on its strong nursing program. Its Bachelor of Science in Nursing allows students to immediately enroll in graduate school or go right into the field. Students can also take shorter courses that let them graduate with certification in one or more topics. More than 92 percent of graduates successfully passed the N-CLEX examination on their first attempt or a later attempt. This figure gives the university one of the highest passing rate out of all colleges in the state. Students also appreciate the faculty members working in the program. California State University, Dominguez Hills

California State University, Dominguez Hills is one of the newer campuses in the CSU system. Established in 1960, it struggled for nearly five years before the founders decided to build a new campus from the ground up. More than 50 percent of its students are Hispanic and nearly 20 percent are African American, which gives it more of a diverse population than you might find on other campuses in the system or in the state.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
CSU, Dominguez Hills wants its Bachelor of Science in Nursing students to feel both comfortable and confident. Professors working in the program encourage students to take a review course offered by professionals prior to sitting for the state licensing examination. The college also offers its own scholarship program designed to assist minority students. Students currently enrolled can apply for the scholarship, and six students will receive more than $2,000 in free money. In addition to the nursing program that it offers on campus, students can also enroll in an online nursing program. They’ll have the chance to complete clinical rotations in the Dominguez Hills area or in their current cities. Those taking classes on campus have access to various workshops throughout the year too.

College of Science
Cal State East Bay, officially known as California State University, East Bay, opened its doors in 1959 as a way to provide local students living in one of two counties with higher learning opportunities. The foundation of the campus itself didn’t come along for several years, and students originally attended classes on a high school campus. As the campus grew, the college continued seeing its population increase, and it most recently saw enrollment of more than 14,000 students.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at Cal State East Bay requires the completion of nine quarters, but some students can complete the program in eight quarters. Students will spend two years working on the requirements of the pre-nursing program, including a high level of mathematics, anatomy and science courses. The remaining eight quarter hours must come from nursing classes. As the college has more students than it has spaces for in its clinical programs, some students may find themselves waiting to enter one of those experiences. Cal State East Bay also offers opportunities for students who already possess a degree in a nursing topic. You can transition from an ADN or RN to a BSN after taking the required classes.

Whether you have your RN degree, or you’re new to the field of nursing, you can still earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through CSU Fresno. The RN to BSN program lets students transfer the credits they earned in an RN program to limit the time they spend working on a BSN. If you enter the school as a new student, you need to spend a minimum of one to two years working on your pre-nursing requirements. Only those who receive high grades in those courses and demonstrate that they retained the knowledge they learned can continue with the program. You can expect to spend an additional two to three years taking advanced nursing classes and working with patients in clinical rotations.

California State University, Fullerton ranks as the biggest campus in the CSU school system, with a total enrollment of more than 38,000 students. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing available through CSU Long Beach is a unique program. This program stresses the importance of preparing students to work in multiple fields. Though California State University, San Bernardino has a smaller population than some of the other CSU campuses, it still boasts an impressive enrollment of more than 15,000 students. Its location in the desert and its ability to keep costs low make it one of the area’s top colleges.

California is one of several states in the country with a desperate need for trained nurses. CSU, San Bernardino started its nursing program as a way to keep up with the demand for nurses in the local area and across the state. All students interested in the program must first take the Test of Essential Academic Skills and present a copy of their scores with their completed application. Students will also need to submit a copy of their official transcripts from any colleges they attended and several letters of recommendation. CSU San Bernardino is highly selective with the students it enrolls in its nursing program. You’ll need to take prerequisite courses on campuses and get good grades in those courses before enrolling.

California State University, San Marcos is the newest addition to the CSU school system. Founded in the late 1980s, the school opened after that system realized that students living in the San Marcos region had limited options. The San Marcos campus originally operated as a satellite campus with few programs, and most students transferred to other campuses. The majority of its current students now remain on campus and finish one of its degree programs.

College of Science
California State University, Stanislaus opened in the 1950s as a small state college. It didn’t become part of the CSU school system for several years. Hispanic students represent the largest cultural group on campus, followed by Caucasians and African Americans. The diversity on its campus received recognition from a number of organizations over the years. Several professional athletes, politicians, professors and educators graduated from CSU Stanislaus since the campus began offering classes and degrees.

CSU Stanislaus makes it easy for students to understand how its Bachelor of Science in Nursing program works. Students interested in that program can attend an information session at the start of the new school year.
