University of Alabama Application Requirements
There are seven steps to complete when applying to the University of Alabama as listed below. Keep in mind that the application process varies depending on if you are entering UA as a Freshman, transfer or international student. Check out the university website for your specific requirements.
Submit the application for admission – You must submit the application, the application fee and any required documents to Undergraduate Admissions.
Complete your scholarship application – All students are encouraged to complete the online scholarship application including the resume portion by the deadline noted on the website.
Submit your nonrefundable freshman enrollment deposit – Once you are admitted, your freshman enrollment deposit is due.
Complete the online residence hall housing contract – If residing on campus, complete the housing contract by the deadline noted online and submit the housing application fee and prepayment to Housing and Residential Communities.
Register for orientation – You may register for Bama Bound Orientation online.
Complete Financial Aid required documents – Anyone wishing to receive tuition assistance must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit any required documents to Student Financial Aid.
Submit medical requirements – You are required to submit a completed Medical History Form and Proof of Immunization form to the Student Health Center upon admission to UA.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The estimated cost of tuition for full-time undergraduate students is $24,320 with room and board or $11,270 without for in-state tuition. Estimated out-of-state tuition is $40,800 with room and board or $27,750 without. The estimated costs for books, transportation and incidentals is estimated to be $5,382 for in-state students and $6,522 for out-of-state students. Online classes are available at the same rate as in-state tuition even if you are taking the class out of state.
Financial Aid advisors are available to assist you with your financial needs at the Student Services Center. Advisors can help determine what aid you may qualify for. Options include:
● Academic Scholarships – These scholarships are merit based and require certain GPAs or qualifying SAT or ACT scores. Undergraduates with 30 or less credit hours require a 1.5 GPA, 31-60 credit hours require a 1.7 GPA, 61-90 credit hours require a 1.9 GPA, and 90+ hours require a 2.0 GPA to qualify for the scholarships. ● Federal Financial Aid – Federal aid is awarded based on the results of the FAFSA. Some of the programs you may qualify for are the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), the Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Work Study, the Federal Pell Grant, and the Federal Direct Stafford Loans. If you are eligible for a grant, this does not have to be repaid.
● Alabama’s Promise – This is a UA grant which was developed in response to receiving a $1 million dollar grant from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Award. It is awarded to students who graduate from high school in Alabama. They must complete at least 45 hours of general education with a minimum 3.0 GPA at a community college in AL. They must be 25 years old or younger and complete the FAFSA with an EFC of 3500 or less. Students awarded this grant are expected to enroll in a minimum of 12 hours per semester and remain in good academic standing. Alabama’s promise can’t be combined with UA transfer scholarships.
